John scalzi has a delightful appreciation for the absurd and a wonderfully snarky observational humor. Scalzi does a good job of bringing the generic, disposable redshirts to life, and getting us to empathize and care about them.
Book seems tailor made for you. Unexpected but added a lot of heart and sincerity to the events of the book. I'll play coy on the reveal, even if it's fairly obvious.
Redshirts by john scalzi is a fun and clever book. It is a great parody and it is from a redshirt point of view. Everyone has their role in the grand scifi narrative…even the lower ranks.

Give it a pass unless you're really starved for halfway decent scifi. Scalzi's ok with a plot but not much with hard science. The fact that this particular scalzi work won the hugo award seems baffling.
Don't hope it will get better and plow through; it gets worse. This one…is a meta too far.
