How it works is completely gyroscopic which means that the movement of the pointer isnt based on actually pointing it at your screen like a wiimote with the extra ir emitters but rather it is all done as relative movement of the pointer to movement of the remote

So wherever the pointer is on the screen it will move relative to how you move the remote regardless of where you happen to be pointing it you dont even need a line of sight

When you move a regular mouse there is no direct relationship between the surface you move your mouse on to your screen

While its convenient to not have to worry about batteries with the built in battery mele f10s it also means that eventually the internal battery will wear down and it may be impossible to find a replacement even if disassembling it and replacing it is not a big deal im not sure
