I bought these for a surf trip to the North Shore of Oahu. On all the other trips I've taken to warm-water destinations, I've ended up with a rash on my inner thighs. These compression shorts probably won't prevent that from happening. That rash comes from your inner thigh hairs getting ripped out by your surfboard wax. If these compression shorts went down to your knees, you might be able to avoid that, but remember that these shorts hike up your leg when you are sitting on your board. Some people advise you to refrain from waxing the sides/rails of your surfboard on the part of your deck where you sit, but I'm loathe to do that because I don't want to have any slippery areas on my deck! Another rash male surfers get is what you get on your scrotum or groin area. This rash usually happens when you do a lot of walking in WET board shorts. I walked around quite a bit in wet board shorts with these jammers underneath and I didn't get any hot spots down below.   Read Less
