William zinsser teaches by example. The humor teaches you as it entertains. From its shine real glimpses of what it means to be a thoughtful, sensitive, and appreciative human.

The advice mirrors the exceptional clarity and fluency of the writer's own words. Fewer words makes reading what a wrote smoother and easier for the reader to digest. For me this is the clearest how to on writing i've encountered.

It focuses on non-fiction writing and has lots of great guidelines plus great advice. Good book for all writers, but intended for journalists. The author has a long history as a journalist and columnist.

On writing well is a book about commentary on writing rather than instruction. Zinsser preaches a lean, clipped writing style that essentially neuters any sense of lyricism or music in language.

He generalizes egregiously about topics that are enormous and yet undefined. Ernest hemingway, steinbeck, virgina woolf are simply irrelevant according to him.
