    I tried capturing lightning at night and getting it to focus at infinity is extremely difficult.

    In manual focus mode you can continuously spin the focus ring, it never hits infinity.

    Luckily, you can change the lens setting on the camera so that it doesn't reset the focus point once you turn the camera off and back on.
