I would lock it when i wanted them to stay in and they couldnt understand why the door wouldnt open for them

We love having a pet door in our screen but it doesnt swing easily so we end up propping it up and open all day and feel we get less flies in the house than when we had to leave the entire screen open 8 for the dogs to come and go

The alternative pet doors for screens are really expensive

My screen was already open and this door doesn’t come with a screen so i had to install my own

Maybe a design for future is to add a base so the door doesnt float in the middle of the screen

It did take some work to install only because we couldnt lay the screen flat to push the two sides together and it takes some force to lock the pieces together

Funny process of getting her to understand she could go thru the screen after about a week or so she finally got used to the idea
