I thought it was broken too until i installed it the right way

It does close very well its spring loaded to stay in place so of course when its not installed right it will appear as if its broken its not

I tried good looking wood pet child gates but tripping over their support feet and rambunctious boys etc resulted in splintered wood and non functional gates

If you dont use the extensions you dont have to worry i first tried it with the small extension but it was too large with that and then reinstalled with no extensions for a bedroom door

Opening the door once tensioned to close securely is easy simply press both buttons to open only an adult would have the finger span and strength to press simultaneously
