This filter is not needed for the latter but if you use a hose you will need one at least every season as the hose will produse mini and micro particles that can clog the heater lines i found this out the hard way had to dispose of one hearter because i did not have the filter

I dont know if it actually does anything or not but it screwed right on my big buddy heater and my tank adapter hose

I would not recommend running the heater without one on a larger tank unless you want to buy a new heater

If you are attaching the small 1 lb propane tank you will not be able to close your mr heater withthe covers

Many people say the rubber hoses release an oil that clogs fine orifices so this is a must to have inline
