You can buy these adaptors without a cable for around a pound but they can put a strain on the socket with the weight of the standard jack and cable plus the tolerances of the cheap adaptor may not give a tight fit resulting in poor connection

As is common with many headphone adaptors there is a small dead spot in the connector where the sound is not good twisting the connector through 45 degrees sorts this out

Good mechanical construction and a tight connection yes as do no oxidising materials for the connector but wire is wire
