I need at connector which would fit a badly designed port which was inaccessible by most commonly available jacks.

I put up with 6 months of crackly headphones on my computer before i realised it was the adaptor causing the issue.

You can buy these adaptors without a cable for around a pound, but they can put a strain on the socket with the weight of the standard jack and cable, plus the tolerances of the cheap adaptor may not give a tight fit resulting in poor connection.

The jack sleeves were all metal.

Needed to connect a microphone to a speaker that was sitting at an angle and couldnt connect 3.

As is common with many headphone adaptors, there is a small dead spot in the connector where the sound is not good - twisting the connector through 45 degrees sorts this out.

Good mechanical construction and a tight connection yes, as do no oxidising materials for the connector but wire is wire.
