The part that goes above your hand is thinner and doesn't seem to have as many beads so it doesn't keep heat quite as well as the bottom part.

This is a life saver if the pain gets bad, i throw this in the microwave and put it on for about 5 minutes, helps me keep going, i have purchased many products for my pain and this is the most effective thing i have used, money well spent, wasted lots of money before on other things that did not help.

The disadvantage is that a seam in the bag holding the beads has a small leak which can be repaired through sewing.

If you do not sew it it will continue to leak and become worse.
