To protect the probe and provide a clip if you want to clip it to a pocket there is a sleeve that goes over the probe with an integrated clip

When i took it out and used the max min function to read the freezer temperature it was accurate however initially when taking it out of the freezer there was no display and i thought i had broken it however the display appeared when it warmed up to room temperature

I am not sure there are many situations where you can use the probe to measure low temperatures without exposing the whole thermometer to low temperatures

However it also says in the care and cleaning not submersible but also dishwasher safe to 190 ° f 88°c

The cooking jam needs to be inconveniently deep to cover the thermometer to the correct depth4

The thermometer can get very difficult to read if the jam has frothed up and covered too much of the thermometer5
