    I did try to get experimental and try to attempt some video pan moves with this head but it's just not smooth enough.

    I use some fairly-heavy-forward, no ring-mount glass.

    This head holds snugly for most setups the friction control helps a bit; if you do more panning landscapes, look at 498rc2.
