Manduka is the best, the difference is h u g e and it's worth every penny. I highly recommend getting a yoga towel even if you don't do hot yoga because it extends the life of your mat by eons.
The quality is unparalleled. It is such a quality mat that this should not deter you. However with the grip this one offers it outweighs the smell factor.

Before every exercise i wipe it with a damp cloth never expose it to sun and keep it in a cool dry place
