Ive recently just repaired the necklace with over 300 individually hand carved and drilled pieces it was a 3 hour project especially with some holes not exactly the same size but the cord managed to work

It was easy to tie to the hook and eye components absorbed and has held the glue ive used to seal the knots and used to thread some of the beads and so far looks a lot like the original that strung the necklace together
