The makita mac2400 is very quiet compared to the average airless pancake compressor. This is much quieter than any prior compressor i have owned. It is also quieter than my older air cooled model.

Instructions for installing the air intake filter and compressor oil are straightforward. The included oil is fine for break in purposes - the instructions tell you to run the compressor with no load for 20 minutes to perform the break-in.
