It comes on as soon as it gets dark enough to trigger the box and you can test this just by turning it on and placing your hand over the box the lights will turn on

First ill say i only gave it four stars because these are not near as bright as i thought they were going to be

Also the lights themselves are teeny tiny when i saw the picture i thought theyd be bigger

It actually works out good that theyre not super bright because that does not mess with the chickens laying schedule they dont think its daytime

It just comes on when its dark and turns off when its daytime
