Pros

Beautifully crafted and durable. Very well made, shipped right on time.

Well worth the splurge. Not cheap, but with proper care should last a lifetime. Will be purchasing again as a gift to someone with a winter home or cabin.

Even very hard wood splits nicely. Use the technique of circling the wood, removing flakes from the outside. It splits usa northeast hardwood as described in the advertisements.

You have to almost completly let go of the handle to avoid the violent action when it splits. Doesn't work nearly as well as a maul or a wedge and sledge hammer. Tried splitting pieces off the edge, aligned with the rings, or aligned with radial crack...  Read More

Pitter patter. No joy. It is outrageously overpriced.

Also the design prevents the head from driving too deep into the wood and sticking

Buying or renting a splitter were options but i would have had to get the thing in the back yard and if renting it would have had to work quickly to work through the huge volume of wood
