If the dime were built with the same materials and quality, it would be the superior tool in my opinion.
Something with a decent amount of tools, good build quality, but small in size.
Competitiveness
It has all of the main tools that i want in a multi-tool: knife, scissors, pliers, and several other tools.
You need a multi-tool to be mobile, and this one fits in your pocket without taking up extra space.
I’m not the type to carry a multitool on my belt when wearing my non-work clothes.
If it’s in my toolbox and i need a flathead, i’m gonna grab my craftsman proper flathead not from a multitool.

However, the dime really has not stood up to fairly moderate use.

There are complaints for both of these tools concerning the scissor spring.

By comparison, the knife on the dime was always a disappointment - the blade is not sharp, the convex contour of the blade means it does not cut that consistently and increases the chance it will slip, and the lack of a 'belly' on the tip further makes some carving applications difficult.

The file on the dime does - just - work, but is more of a marketing ploy - you would be better off trying to file something with a rock.

The bottle-opener is far better, the tweezers give great peace of mind in case you get a splinter, and the box-opener is actually very useful - while i worked a minimum wage job between grad schools, it was the single most used tool and, sadly, the first to break (not the box opener itself, but the metal behind it locking it open, which bent when too much force was applied - i just about hammered it back into place).

Again, for lighter and less regular use, it would ultimately make more sense to buy the dime and accept that it is a cheap tool that will be periodically replaced.

It is incredibly hard to get each tool out.
