I have owned two of these kettles. The first one was the signature brick red. Never had issue other than the enamel paint chipping in a spot on the exterior within a few weeks of use. Still worked though so no gripes.I bought this one to replace the first some 5 years later. Is the aqua blue color. No issues. It holds water to be heated and it does so pretty rapidly. Bought because I hope to get induction some day and wanted something that will work across all stove types. That and I know it will last and carries a lifetime warranty. It's easy to clean. Use vinegar to wash away mineral deposits if you have hard water like I do. Hole is a little hard to get big hands down in to. But if you're just heating water... should be just a matter of rinsing and wiping clean.The lid is a little tougher to remove than the red one I owned. Oh well, perhaps over time with use it'll become easier.As for giftability… unless there's someone you know that loves Le Creuset cookware, you could probably get something less  Read Less
