Pros

The jbm-5 is the second jet product i have purchased. I am happy to say their reputation is very well deserved. The tool is great and had no defects when i unpacked it.

I'm not the world's most skilled craftsman, but i found the set up and use of the jet mortiser easy and accurate.

Great torque at the point of attachment.

It runs very smooth and quiet. This is not an expensive machine, however for my home shop it is superb.

The jbm-5 benchtop mortiser is the biggest surprise to date. The plywood base has six holes and the riser has three. No rockler sells an extension table for this model. Be prepared to mount this to a table or some other ridgid structure before use.

Cons

When i attempted to make 3/8 mortise in maple, the head of the jet mortiser flexed about 1/8. Get yourself a good plate jointer (biscuits) instead. I'm skeptical how square the machine would cut if the manufacturer cannot machine square bolt holes.

Simply put this is a good machine for the cost

I recieved pretty quick witht the free shipping

Jointer and planer and ive always had excellent experiences with their shipping service

There i found that the shipping for the 6 wrench would be 19

Since it was shipped by fedex and arrived in 3 days with free shipping i figured amazon had fixed the shipping problem

Assembly was snap and unlike the experience reported by some other reviewers everything was in perfect condition inside the carton

It doesnt take much movement of the wood to bind the chisel in the mortise

This allows the stock to rack slightly when withdrawing the chisel from the mortise

Competitiveness

No biggie rockler sells an extension table for this model that i am considering buying

Jet engineer their tool so that every action is reduced to the simplest desing which you understand right away when looking at the tool
