Theres a foam gasket in the lid to make the container more airtight and it seems to keep the food fresh for the 34 weeks it lasts me i havent tasted it to check for staleness but the pup has not filed any complaints

I tend to pick it up with one hand but you have to be careful not to grab the latch end it might pop open
