    My thought is that a perhaps a larger animal (maybe a racoon) got a paw stuck in it and dragged it into the woods.

    I've had better success with this trap placed where the chipmunks run versus baiting the traps.

    I highly recommend tying some fishing line to one end of the trap and securing it to a fence post or slim tree as predatory animals can run away with your trap.

    Also if you live in an urban/suburban area the color of this trap is very visible as is the label so your neighbors will likely notice this.
