I assume the corrosion was caused by the water leaking out of the stem and down the outside when the orings failed

Maybe it made a huge difference that it was installed with a ge smartwater undercounter filtration system

I had this same item for nearly 15yrs finally when it gave up i could not find any where to replace it untill i saw it on amazon
