I will replace it with the same item because i know it fits my crowded area under the sink.

The first came with the house and probably lasted 10 years, this one is 4 years old and starting to make noises.

Price

Price was good, as i checked around, but no one had it in stock, so, this worked out great.

Considering the cost, they're well worth the money.

Packaging/appearance

We remodeled our kitchen and installed the insinkerator hot wter dispenser into the new granite countertop.

I assume the corrosion was caused by the water leaking out of the stem and down the outside when the o-rings failed.

Competitiveness

Maybe it made a huge difference that it was installed with a ge smartwater under-counter filtration system.

I had this same item for nearly 15yrs, & finally when it gave up, i could not find any where to replace it, untill i saw it on amazon.

I have one of these that I'm going to replace very soon, so I was looking at the reviews to see what other people thought of them. I wasn't surprised that most people seem to think it's pretty cheaply made, that's pretty much my impression too, but I was surprised to find that they only seem to last about 3 years on average. Mine is WAY older than that.Maybe mine was a MUCH better-constructed early version of this model. Maybe it made a HUGE difference that it was installed with a GE SmartWater under-counter filtration system. Maybe I'm just lucky. Mine is 12 years old and still sputtering water and steam out of the spout when it heats (it always has).It sits up behind the sink basins so that I have to get down on all fours to even look at it. You can probably imagine I don't look at it very often. Tonight I was replacing the filters on my drinking water system and I took a good look at it for some reason. The plastic outer cover is cracked, split and falling apart from long heat exposure, and I'm thinking I'd better get a new hot water dispenser before the tank fails and I have a boiling mini-flood under the kitchen sink.In 12 years it hasn't been trouble free. The pin that holds the handle on the valve broke during the first year from heavy-handed teenagers' carelessness; it still worked so I didn't replace it for a while, but after about 4 years the spout started leaking at the base, so I bought some o-rings and a new pin; it wasn't that difficult to fix. I've had to put new o-rings on a couple of times since then. When it was about 8 or 9 it quit working. I was thinking about replacing it then, but it didn't look as decrepit as it does now, so I opened it up to see what the problem was and it turned out that one of the wires had corroded completely off the connector. I assume the corrosion was caused by the water leaking out of the stem and down the outside when the o-rings failed. Since the other wire wasn't looking very good either, I trimmed the cord and soldered on a couple of new connectors. It's been working fine since.My total repair costs in 12 years are under 10 dollars and I've only had to work on it for about a half hour every 4 years or so, so I can't complain - considering most people don't seem to get 4 years total use out of it. I think I paid about 137 dollars for it at Home Depot, so with repairs it's cost me less than 15 dollars a year.If the plastic casing wasn't literally crumbling off it I wouldn't even be thinking of replacing it. Yes, it has some design flaws and it's pretty flimsily constructed, but I just don't see any reason to complain, considering that it was the cheapest hot water dispenser I could find when I bought it.I never did turn it down like the manual and other reviewers here recommend to extend it's life and prevent the steaming and sputtering when it heats up either. I think, though, I might try a slightly higher quality model. Maybe it'll last forever. Read Less
