Your phone will still list the scanner as paired but the torque app on your phone will tell you that the scanner is not connected to the car ecu

This suggests to me that the phone and scanner are talking to each other but the scanner is not getting any data from the car e

To wake the scanner up you have to unplug the scanner and then plug it back in to get it out of sleep mode
