I can't think of a single journalist who had better access to the uk's financial movers and shakers at this critical time, and the most exciting parts of this book (yes, really) are peston's gripping inside story of how northern rock unravelled in 2007 and how contagion from the us bond markets came within a whisker of bankrupting the uk in september 2008.
