Each rod has a screw in each end, and you attach it to the x frames. Very durable, wood feels solid, and looks much classier than a plastic laundry bin.

Apparently a hole is drilled into each end of the rod and the screw is press fitted in

In my case the holes on each end of one rod must have been slightly oversized
