    When examining the drive label i see that the drives manufacture date has been removed however there is a trace of the original date imprint showing the drive was manufactured in 2012

    My best guess about this drive is that it is newoldstock nos a drive that was manufactured in 2012 but never sold by hitachi through its normal distribution chain

    Since these drives probably sat in an inventory for a couple of years hitachi probably decided to sell the lot of these to third party resellers removing the date to remove the drive from hitachi warranty service
