Pros & Cons

Pros

There's nothing prudish/straitlaced about the books or the author. This book is pure escapism. I was enthralled by the story.

Between the quiet chapters are bursts of adventure one has no difficulty envisioning in fantastic detail. The character of temeraire is particularly endearing. My only complaint is the pacing.

The dragon, named temeraire, soon hatches and imprints on laurence. Britain is at war with napoleonic france, and they need all the dragons they can get. The aerial corps and its dragons fit surprisingly well into the military of 19th century britain....  Read More

The series appears successful so perhaps there is more to the story as it matures. I adore temeraire as a character who also learns and grows throughout the series.

Cons

After the intriguing exposition, you keep waiting for something to actually happen. The author also tends to start storylines that then just disappear. Amazon and the publisher have no right to limit what you can and cannot do with your ebook.

The mists of avalon is much better for historical fantasy. Naomi novik's uprooted is a far more nuanced and interesting book. Novik writes well but doesn't have enough depth to carry off the fantasy aspect of things.
