Both the book and the movie are kid-friendly, inspiring, and educational. As a student who loves math and science, i highly recommend this book to readers who have a passion and want to learn more about this field.
The book comprises the black folk defiance to societal stereotypes. More so, it exemplifies how women of color defied societal stereotypes against racism and gender-based biased.
Shetterly’s book expounds on the profound role played by women in society. One complaint i had with this book (and the reason for the deduction of a star) is the way the author kept jumping around, in time and between each of these ladies’ stories.
Hidden figures encapsulates several realms of stem, showcasing all the math and science involved in the aeronautical field. If you are looking for an educational read that will give you a multifaceted look at the post-war black working class of americ... Read More

What a disappointment. Just highly disappointed. Nothing compelling. Nope, never got a feel for anyone.
The story line is so all over the place-it is very confusing. It is not organized and i find myself asking what is going on a particular chapter.

All the white men went to war and there simply weren’t enough mathematicians at home to crunch the numbers and design the best planes

At the same time all over the country black woman mathematicians were primed for graduate work but found themselves barred from postgrad education by racism—so they applied to langley and jpl and got the job because even the most stubborn racist couldn’t say no to such ridiculously overqualified applicants
