    Of special interest is the fact that two of the hogwood versions (symphonies 76 and 77) are published for the first time ever.

    They were recorded at the tail end of the series, right before decca closed it down, but were not included in any of the boxes at the time, nor were they included in the complete hogwood edition of the haydn symphonies issued in italy recently.

    H and b proceed with the most poise, restraint and balance in the classical sense, whereas d seems to my ears to point the clearest way to beethoven and a more romantic approach.
