The exterior appears to be a semi-hard thermoformed plastic covered in a durable black vinyl wth a heavy duty double zipper.

The box that the joule originally came in did not wrangle the cord nor stand up to use (nor had a handle).

The only down side is that if your significant other likes it medium well and you like medium rare you just cant start hers first as it doesn't mater if you leave it in for a day it will still be only the temp you set it at.
