This is my second great product from GRDE®, and I’m not disappointed. I’ve always wanted a metal detector, so much so that a couple of years ago I joined my local U3A’s metal detecting group, where we shared detectors, and where the leader of the group sought the necessary permission from farmers to detect. But the group folded, and a metal detector is expensive to buy unless you’re going to make good use of it. They’re also quite heavy to use and can strain muscles in arms, wrists, necks, and backs. Furthermore UK laws and restrictions have always deterred me from from buying one. A lot of people think you can just got to a park or a beach and start scanning, but most land is privately owned, or is council property, and I soon learnt that permission to detect is very hard to obtain. I don’t know if the laws apply to a little scanner like this, which only measures approx 15” x 3” x 1”, and weighs half a pound, but I shall take my chance!I saw this little hand held detector (small enough to fit in the ‘poacher’s pocket’ of my dog walking fleece, and thought “hey ho”. Last summer, whilst dog walking, I picked up numerous 1p, 2p, and 5p coins in a smallish area of the local park where youngsters gather, and where they just throw these coins away. The ground is now muddy, and the grass is long, but I bet there are hundreds (?) of coins just under the surface which I missed last year; and I daresay they’ve cast aside more over the winter months. I thought I’d buy this detector and, when no-one is looking (especially the kids who laughed at this old girl picking up their pennies) I’ll sit on the grass and scan - just for fun!! The grandchildren will also have good fun with it.The range of this detector is not great, just a couple of inches or so, but I didn’t expect it to be great because it’s basically just a portable security scanner. It might just seek out that earring I’ve lost somewhere in the house though, and it might have found the one my sister lost in our mother’s garden…. if I hadn’t found it first! If it’s held close to them, it detects metal under three or four 0.5”- 0.75” thick, hard backed, books. When I bought this detector it said that a battery was not included, but I’m pleased to say mine did have one. The listing, three weeks later, now says “Powered by one 9V battery (included) - works continuously up to 40 hours; With an external charging port; You also can use a rechargeable 9-volt battery”.It says on the box that a rechargeable 9v battery will last up to 40 hours, and that an ordinary alkaline battery (like the one I received) only lasts up to 28 hours. I noticed that at least one lucky reviewer received a rechargable 9v PP3/HR22 battery but I suspect that was a mistake as they cost around £5; a mains DC/AC adapter is not much more. But neither a battery charger nor a mains charger are included. I also noticed that the original price stated is now £5.01 less than when I bought it, but the sale price is still the same.I bought this GRDE® Hand Held Metal Detector at a discounted price in return for giving an honest, unbiased opinion of it. I enjoy providing potential purchasers with my thoughts and experiences to (hopefully) help them to make an informed decision about a product they are considering buying. The fact that it was discounted has not influenced my opinion of the product in any way. If I don’t like something, or feel there is a problem with it, I will always say so! Read Less
