The handle doesnt get as hot as the body so if its just started boiling its ok to touch otherwise you may want to be safe and grab it with a rag

I do not heat water in this kettle but instead i use an electric kettle to boil my water so i cannot speak to its durability to an open flame or the impact it maymay not have on the finish

The problem i had with it is that it’s so small i have to use a pot holder to pick it up because even on low heat the handle is too close to the flame on my gas stove and gets quite hot by the time the water has gotten to temperature
