This book captures all of this and more! It’s essentially a book of lists, but charmingly written. This book is indeed fabulous.

Corinna shows the same love and enthusiasm for this magical place. She is serious and reasonably knowledgeable about the somewhat less touristed sights in rome.

It is choked full of ideas to do in rome with history information to support the suggestions. It's easy to find the colosseum but then what is nearby to do? A list of museums to visit beyond the vatican museum.
