I had a similar sprinkler with the metal base that was sturdier, but it ended up leaking after a few years.

I own at least five different makes of impulse type sprinklers, all of which water my large lawn equally well, but allhave one common bothersome design in that changing coverage settings is basically a trial and error operationuntil you get the setting that you want.

It isn't an end of the world as we know it problem but it is a guessing game each time that you want to change the coverage setting.
