I study concurrently with a teacher who gives me the theoretical context and methods of systematic learning, so my progress is relatively quick, but the book is no less suitable for self-study.

All the concepts are presented in one key (this is so huge imo) in one basic region on the fretboard (technically positions 4 - 8); transposing them to other keys and positions can be done either while working through the book (this is not what the book has you do, but i did this for f, b flat, c, and g) or after the entire book is completed.

I would suggest a student to sing aloud, or in his or her mind, to every phrase put forth on guitar.

He may mention as much in his notes in the book but it covers arpeggios, playing them in context (over corresponding chords), bebop, tritone substitutions, extensions built off said stuff and more, but, if you are familiar with caged system, does so only for ii v i progressions of the a major form.

I guess the intention is to leave the application of this material to the remaining forms (cged) as an exercise for the reader.
