It comes down to whether youd rather operate a lock with your foot or your hand

If i was trying to keep children from getting out the sliding glass door this wouldnt be the right lock

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

This lock pin does not allow any movements in the door and you dont have to have a door with a large rod across it like other do or put in a hockey stick

Unfortunately this is for vinyl doors

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

I tried to solve the problem of locking open a sliding glass door with doggie door insert for a while before i found this

If you are doing what i did beware of something though

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

When the door is locked partially open there is a space between the two overlapping doors that is not sealed which means bugs and air can go in and out

Im sure you could install at the top of your door too if your kids are younger and you need to prohibit them from going outside without an adult
