The big problem i had was that the main screw and its receiver are not well mated, having been machined with an enormous amount of leeway - and during un-clamping, the jaws/screw tended to bind up, then the return spring would push the jaws apart with force - causing the moving jaw to lurch backward 1-2 mm upon release.

Cleaning and greasing had no effect on this: it arrived nicely clean already, and while the grease coat was very thin (again, probably a desirable thing for most users) re-greasing made no difference (so i'd say the factory greasing should be fine for most users).

I am avoided made in china vises but needed something bigger than the 4 benchtop i have.

That said i can see the base is the weakest point with just 1 bolt holding it on and 1 tie down.
