I do think that the reviews on a lot of the other lanterns leaking is because they were overfilling/tipping them.

Paraffin oil burns with a very small flame even when the wick is raised.

The only worry is pulling down the lever to lift the globe--it appears to scratch the glass, but as long as you pull it away and down from the glass, it shouldn't be a problem.
