The led lights are must for this type of loupe unless you only use it for items like photo films that you can back light

In my opinion the design is very smart because the transparent stand traps all the light so all the light is focused directly on the image below

Both are made of glass i note this because some of the reviews i read talk about plastic lenses i had a clear view of the items i checked out
