This sharpener is very easy to use, safe and you can put on a razors edge. This is the one i bring car-camping, if not hiking. I like the fact that it is 2 sided andyou can just flip it over from one grit to the other.

In fact if youre determined to use a japanese whetstone youll need a diamond stone to keep it flat

While that one is nice i dont think its very necessary for most purposes especially if youll be carrying it
