I really like how it retracts and sits against the wall though. Blends in nicely with my old farmhouse. It matches the stain on our woodwork. I like that it swings completely open.

There are no other mounting options since there is moulding at the top of the stairs. Once installed, it is sturdy. Screws into the wall, so it’s pretty sturdy.

Cons

This one barely slides as the brackts wobble and catch. Only slides smoothly for about an inch before it sticks. However this one looks nicer but is virtually useless.

The center gate slats are very flimsy.

It's too difficult to squeeze the thing to latch to open, and too hard to line up the wood bars to close. There is no reason they couldn't have put a pin or lever to lock the mounting bracket on.
