Pros
If you are retrofitting and old system or building one from scratch this is the way to go. A good setup guide can be found here. Above is my written review that apparently i've never posted after years of owning this!
Smoothstepper works flawlessly. Works like a champ.
Cons
Reviews are heavily company sponsored. Unfortunately it is very laggy especially with an external controller. Caused other issues for me on my machine.

I use the ess with the tmc3in1 torch height control addon
The board tied in with the gecko g540 and mach3 with no issues
Shipping
Not only is it fast and reliable it gives more ins and outs for things like mpg controllers and switches and such
Competitiveness
Had a cheapo ebay controller and thought it was great because i didnt know any better but it was unstable

It works well but the main drawback for me is that everything for the torch height settings has to be set in the post process file

That means if you have the same part that requires 2 different thicknesses youll have to post process 2 different files for each metal thickness in your cam program

Not necessarily a deal breaker for me but in hindsight im wishing i would have compared my options with a hicon integra controller from vital systems
