If you just set it to on it will run until the water is consumed (from full it takes 8 hours), then it automatically shuts off.

It holds about 10 ounces of waters and comes with 4 timer settings of 60, 180, 360 minutes and on which will have the diffuser run continuous.

I just unplug the adaptor from the unit, carry it across the hall and fill it up in the bathroom, then i walk it back.
