But where all are quite integrated packed designs the edimax has plenty of room inside and its wifi controller is on a board parallel to the main one connected by 2 rows of pins via separable male female contacts

So not only can its ralink based board be easily replaced with a modded esp8266 board it gave me the idea to add functionality to it
