Pros & Cons
Pros
It separates out the very fine particles (think turkish grind fine) it’s pretty good for dosing so i leave it on my counter under my eureka grinder. When i learned on how to make the good drip coffee, this is one of a security weapon.
The lid and bottom receiver are also a good thickness that they remain rigid and don't deform through normal use. I find that shaking it'sideways' is best since it increases surface contact with the filter.
A swirling shake seems to be the most effective technique. This is the most important recent discovery i've made for brewing great coffee. Ethiopian tend to create a lot of fines and if your drawdown chokes a lot then this might help.
Cons
I have a pretty cheap burr grinder, and it's very inconsistent. This sieve separates out 10-20% of the ground coffee.
Highlights
Quality
Oh and the quality of this little stainless steel gem is excellent
Im very impressed with the quality of this sieve
With the fines gone i went 1 to 1
As others have said be careful with the thinwalled inner filterit looks delicate
Packaging/appearance
It does a good job the fines are the consistency of talcum powder
Competitiveness
I have two grinders a bodum and a capresso
Second the use of this thing to remove fines makes cleaning out your french press or reusable filter on your chemex drip soooo much easier

You won’t be able to dial in your grind size but it will get rid of the sludge at the bottom of our coffee

However be aware it will also make your coffee taste weaker unless you add the beans to compensate for what you are removing

Im pretty sure most folks use more beans than i do as well

I generally lose 10 by weight to fines whether i use my own burr grinder or commercially ground coffee by a local business

The fines stick to the sieve somewhat

I tap it pretty thoroughly on the counter to bang them down before opening and then further tap the sieve inside and against the base but invariably there ends up being some mess from coffee fines coming out
