We were fortunate in that our original curtains had two rods so we kept the existing white curtains on the rod next to the window and installed these blackout curtains on the rod furthest from the window with the white side facing indoors and the black side facing outdoors but hidden by the other white curtain between it and the window

They really do a great job and are even better than our older dark brown curtains

Light does get in through them since we have to hang inside our windows and not above them

Our windows are so high and are walls so flaky that we cant mount those heavy duty window rods the decorative kind above the window
