This isn't a dealbreaker for us because the equinox is not our primary vehicle. My grandchildren are in a diono car seat for the safety. He was nestled in the car seat.

Even the shoulder straps have great padding. The straps are a little uncomfortable on the neck but not terrible. The rear facing belt path is ok.

It is difficult to cinch the latch system down. They are ridiculously hard to install. Anything could be as small as you want it to be, if it was infinitely disassembled.

The base strap frequently jams, meaning you can't tighten or loosen it any further. The buckles are finicky to click into the standard car mounting points.

This is not a small cosmetic defect but a major flaw of a safety component. They have no problem with you using defective car seats and will not alert you of possible malfunctions.
