So i put a pair of vice grips on the silver piece between the teeth and right above the black piece (looking at the teeth) (((see pictures))).

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

This prevented the black piece from moving forward and skipping the locking and unlocking mechanism.

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Held the vice grips and turned the black piece clockwise with channel locks and it freed itself.
