I contacted support who are based in china and got an instant reply in perfect english

After running a few tests it was clear the controller wasnt working properly and a new one was sent out promptly

With the original controller the display was on permanently this replacement is one of the new ones and the display now turns off shortly after using it

Assembly was fine with an ikea tabletop the only time i had a slight problem was putting the curved end pieces on id misread the instructions and had the unit the wrong way around
